Spector emailed me today to let me know I had installed their software on two computers and that they would be shutting down my license. Yes, it turns out I had installed it on a second computer. I apparently forgot that I had it on one computer that was out of use for a while and had installed it, again, on the computer my kids are using. Fair enough, I suppose, but the approach does not sit well with me. The way they police your use of the licenses and the fact that you cannot un-install it and re-install on a different computer seems wrong, to me. Yes, you can un-install and re-install to a different computer ONCE. You cannot do this twice. You have to buy another license. Seems the license you purchase is not transferrable to another computer. Even if you un-install it. So what if my computer blows up? I have had two of them die in recent months. Doesn't matter. They don't let you un-install and re-install. I find that unconsciounable. I paid good money for this software and think I should be able to put it on any computer I want to, as long as I have un-installed it on the other computer. My opinion is, the software works fairly well, but there is software from others, one I now recommend to my friends is Web Watcher, as it does what Spector does, and it does more, and you can monitor multiple computers. I really don't like Spectors approach to policing license use and really, really don't like their limitation to only ever installing it on one computer, and really, really, really don't like their manner of communicating/handling these issues.
